Preparation guidelines — step by step
Test preparation includes: dietary preparation, discontinuation of medications and supplements, and additional elements — described below. All recommendations must be followed for 24–48 hours without any deviations. Otherwise the test may yield incorrect results and will need to be repeated at additional cost.
The patient must fast for 12 hours before the test; water is the only permitted fluid. When scheduling the appointment, bear in mind the fasting requirement.
Do not smoke (for at least 12 hours before the scheduled test), including passive smoking — for at least one hour before the test and throughout its entire duration.
Sleep and physical exertion should be avoided for at least 1–2 hours before the test. Intense physical training should be suspended for 24–48 hours. Light physical activity, such as a walk, is permitted before the test. You must remain seated for the entire 3-hour test.
You may brush your teeth and tongue (patients with dentures should not use denture adhesive on the day of the test), but under no circumstances may you swallow toothpaste! If this poses any difficulty, you may proceed with the test without brushing your teeth.
Antibiotics must be discontinued 4 weeks before the scheduled test (not only those targeting gastrointestinal disorders).
The test may be performed no earlier than 4 weeks after: colonoscopy, radiography, hydrocolonotherapy, ileoscopy, fluoroscopy, or enteroclysis.
The test may be performed no earlier than 2 weeks after contrast-enhanced CT. This is also the minimum interval after discontinuing: Furagina, Fluconazole, Nystatyna, Berberyna, Pyrantelum and Zentel.
7 days before the test, discontinue: probiotics, fermented foods, fibre supplements, high doses of magnesium or vitamin C, Tributron, Piołun, Simetikon. We recommend stopping all dietary supplements for one week except vitamin D and omega-3 — this ensures supplementation will not affect the results.
At least 3 days before the test: do not consume alcohol, do not perform enemas, and discontinue the following medications: Gastrobonisol, Rapacholin, Duspatalin, Zirid, Ircolon, Makrogole, Flucofast, Meteospasmyl, Debretin, Debridat, Iberogast, Telfexo, Orungal, Essentiale Forte, Metex, Stoperan, Gaviscon, Esoxx One, Aciclovirum, Dicopek, Forlax, Cholestone, Proursan, Xenna, Resolor, Prokit.
2 days before the test, discontinue proton pump inhibitors (if symptoms are mild, it is advisable to stop these medications 3 days before the test), apple cider vinegar, oregano oil, Trittico, Zoloft.
Medications taken regularly, such as Euthyrox, Letrox or Metformina, need only be discontinued for the last 24 hours — they must not be taken on the morning of the test day.
During the 24–48-hour preparatory diet, exclude all products that are a source of intestinal fermentation: all types of vegetables, fruits, grain products, nuts and seeds, alcohol, juices, etc. — they are strictly forbidden!
